Alan Packer, Director of Engineering, Language Tech, Facebook
Alan Packer is the director of engineering for Facebook's Language Technology Team, responsible for Facebook's machine translation, automatic speech recognition, and natural language understanding technology. Alan has nearly 20 years of applied machine learning experience, starting in the security space (content filtering, anti-spam, and anti-malware) and more recently in speech and language understanding. Previously, Alan was VP of Engineering at RuleSpace, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2002. At Microsoft Alan was the GM of the Anti-Malware Team and later the Language and Intent Team in Bing, building the core technology and back end for Microsoft's personal assistant Cortana.
