A chance discovery sparked a quest for plastics that are both strong and recyclable.
Jeannette Garcia, Research Staff Member, IBM
Jeannette Garcia joined IBM Research in 2012, initiating a program in high-performance materials, energy storage, and polymer recycling. Her research focuses on the rational design of new polymers through sustainable methods, and targeting recyclable materials with mechanical and thermal properties in combinations that were not previously accessible. She has completed work on a new class of industrial polymers that can potentially be used as printable materials (3-D printing), structural composites, cargo carriers, adhesives, and sealants. She received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Seattle University, and a PhD in chemistry from Boston College. Her doctoral work focused on developing catalysts for small-molecule production.
