Maria Contreras-Sweet became the 24th administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and a member of President Obama’s cabinet on April 7, 2014. She advises President Obama on issues related to entrepreneurship and small-business financing, investing, and contracting. As SBA administrator, she oversees the federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which distributes $2.5 billion annually to support promising, early-stage small-business research.
