Maria Pereira is currently head of adhesive technologies at Gecko Biomedical, where she is responsible for the adhesive products pipeline and for the translation of the core technologies from the academic to the industrial settings. She received a degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Coimbra in Portugal and a Ph.D. in bioengineering within the MIT-Portugal framework. During her Ph.D. studies, she worked on the development of biomaterials for unmet medical needs in the fields of tissue adhesion and drug delivery. She also managed several multicenter collaborations leading to multiple high-impact publications.
